As a stay-at-home mom, I spend a large portion of my time in our house. Below are some of the items that I love for the home. Some of these make my life a little bit easier, or more efficient. Other items just make me happy!
Mortar and Pestle Set
Onion Grass Planters
We have had so much trouble keeping plants alive on our front porch due to the amount of shade and we forget to water them…oops! A few years ago, I decided to try fake plants. I found this fake onion grass on Amazon. It has exceeded my expectations with how well it has held up under a very tiny overhang on the front porch. I filled planters from At Home with styrofoam. Then, I added rock from Lowe’s to the top. The planters can also be found at Home Depot.
Rubbermaid Closet Organizers
While I would love to have a gorgeous closet with wood shelving and cabinetry, that is way out of our budget. We have a 1950’s house and every closet is pretty small. Since we are tight on space, we installed these Rubbermaid closet systems in each of the bedroom closets. It allows us to fit way more than we ever could have with the one long bar and one shelf that used to be in the closets.
King Size Bed
We upgraded to a king size bed a few years ago. We had put off buying one for years because there were always other expenses getting in the way but I don’t ever want to go back to a queen size bed now! I sleep so much better now that James, Maggie(our dog), and I all have our own space.

- Velvet Throw Pillows
- Duvet is Hearth and Hand by Magnolia but it’s no longer on the Target website
- Casaluna Lightweight Down Alternative Comforter
- Casaluna 300 Thread Count Sheets
Google Nest
I love having the Hub in the kitchen. I can stream Netflix and Hulu while I make dinner or I can turn music on for the girls to dance while I unload the dishwasher. I could do the same thing with an iPad but that would mean I would have to go track it down and sometimes there just isn’t time for that! We bought a Mini for the basement and now we have dance parties multiple times a week. The smoke/CO2 detector is probably my favorite item we purchased, because it will send alerts to my phone if it detects an issue. As an added bonus, it has a nightlight that comes on when it detects movement in the dark. I didn’t think I would really care about that, but it has been nice to have an automatic nightlight. I fought getting the thermostat for a couple years because I didn’t think we really needed it. I have enjoyed having it ever since we installed it because I can be on the basement couch with a sleeping child and adjust the temperature from my phone. You can set different temperatures throughout the day and it will even adjust the temperature if you are away.
Shark Professional Steam Pocket Mop
I have had this steam mop for years and I still love it! It has three settings depending on what you are cleaning. Once I’m done cleaning the floors, I just throw the pad in the laundry, so there is no need to constantly buy new disposable pads. I do use distilled water in it to make sure calcium build up doesn’t ruin it.
Folex Carpet Cleaner
My sister bought white couches a few years ago and the salesperson suggested she buy Folex for stain removal. They were absolutely right. It is magical! I can’t tell you how many times I have spilled red wine on my carpet and it has come out immediately. I recommend this to everyone now!
Fliplock Storage Containers
We have a smaller pantry and so I need to keep it as organized as possible. These containers from Sam’s have been so helpful! James even commented that it is nice keeping his chips fresher and not crunched up!
Ikea Variera Box
These bins are so versatile. I bought them to use for pantry storage and organization but I think they would be great in any room in the house. They are made of a sturdy plastic so you don’t have to worry about things being too heavy and bending it. By using these and the Fliplock Storage Containers above, I was able to create more room in my pantry without getting rid of anything. These bins come in a small and large size.
