We recently gave Charlotte’s room an update. My cousin decided to get rid of their bunk bed and we thought it would be nice to have for either overnight guests, or if we decide to have the girls share a room in the future. Once we decided to buy the bunk beds from them, it set off a whole room redo.
I opted to purchase the Hauga Sideboard from Ikea for her dresser. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn’t work well to have doors on the sides instead of drawers. Thankfully it has worked out great so far! It did take me a bit to find baskets that worked well in the space. I used this Y-Weave Medium Basket from Target for the top shelves. Target didn’t have the right size and colors available for the bottom shelves, so I ended up finding these Blush Rectangle Baskets at Hobby Lobby. They aren’t the exact same pattern, but I think the color is close enough and it’s inside a cabinet. I ended up ordering different hardware for the doors and drawers that matches what I got for her nightstand. I love that she can now grab clothes easily and it seems to hold more than her old dresser did.
For her nightstand, I wanted to make sure it had storage because it’s not a huge room. I found this nightstand on Amazon and ordered hardware to add to it. The hardware matches perfect! We have used the top drawer to hide the books we read before bed. It helps save my sanity because I don’t have to stare at a pile of books all of the time! I found an adorable lamp from Home Goods that adds a girly feel to her room since a lot of the furniture is more modern now. I searched the internet and could not find anything like the lamp I bought. This Grace Flower Lamp from Pottery Barn Kids has the same kind of girly feel, but even that isn’t very similar.
We bought her bunk bed from a family member but they were originally from Wayfair. I looked and I think this is the bed we have. Charlotte’s room only has one wall that a bunk bed would work on, and it is limited on space because the door to enter her room is also on that wall. Thankfully this bunk bed takes up less room than some others. We already had one set of bedding but needed to buy a second one to match it. Of course, when I was looking for the matching duvet, I couldn’t find it anywhere! Finally, I found it online at Macy’s. We bought inexpensive sheets from Target.
We added a coat rack that my grandfather made on one wall. This has helped Charlotte to be able to go grab a jacket or put it away. Her American girl doll is also stored in that corner. The majority of the American Girl doll items are stored in plastic under bed bins from Target. I found the picture frame at Goodwill and spray painted it white. This is actually something I have done to a lot of frames in our home. Frames can be really expensive and it’s a good way to save some money!
Charlotte’s room feels so light and bright now! As an added bonus, now that everything has a place and she can reach everything, her room is much easier to keep clean!
