For Charlotte’s birthday this year, she chose a Narwhal theme. Unfortunately, there are not a ton of narwhal party decorations ready to buy, so we incorporated mermaids and other sea creatures into the theme. She loved how everything turned out and I was excited to try out a few new craft projects!
Have you seen people selling clear resin letters for children’s sensory bins on Etsy? I had been contemplating buying or making them for awhile now. I ultimately decided I wanted to try making these letters myself. I ordered the resin on Amazon and bought some silicone molds from Michael’s. The mermaid tail and starfish/seashell combination turned out really cute! Even though I loved how these turned out, I would only suggest doing this craft project if it is something you are truly interested in. The resin and the molds are not cheap and it takes a full day for these items to cure. It was worth it for me because I wanted to make multiple sets of resin letters and I plan to use these items in sensory bins for my children.
The other craft project I was able to try for this party was a sea themed vase. This was inspired by Arin Solange. I think this project is a cheaper and easier alternative to resin projects. All you need is hot glue, silicone molds, a vase, and paint. I found a vase at Dollar Tree and I already owned the silicone molds from my resin project, so this was inexpensive to make. First, fill your silicone molds with hot glue. Once they have hardened pop the glue pieces out of the mold. Hot glue the pieces to your vase. Once it has dried, paint your vase. You will want to make sure you have a lot of hot glue sticks for this project!
Are you intimidated by making balloon arches? I used to think they must be really hard and expensive to make. Then, earlier this year, my neighbor inspired me to make one for my younger daughter’s birthday party. It turns out they are super simple to make! My five year old will even help! It took me about an hour to blow up the balloons, attach them, and hang it. My best advice is to buy an electric balloon pump. Without that, it would take forever! Command hooks are a great option to help with hanging. You will need some string to attach it from the hook to the balloon arch.
Supplies needed for the above picture:
- Jellyfish Paper Lantern – These were really cute but kind of a pain. They need way more adhesive than they come with. The bottom part kept trying to separate from the lantern.
- Mermaid Balloon Arch Kit
- Narwhal Balloon – Make sure you don’t overfill! I popped one and had to reorder it.
- Stuffed animals were gathered from around the house.
- Mermaid and Seashell Resin pieces I made. See above for more information.
What party is complete without dessert? This is one area that I do not have the talent and patience to make myself. Thankfully, my friend, Molly Ryan Bakes, is very talented and can make these things for me! I showed her a few pictures of things I was thinking and she took care of the rest! The dessert even doubled as an activity for the children attending the party. Each child was given a black and white cookie and they were able to decorate it. The kids really enjoyed it!
If you are like me and find throwing parties is a creative outlet for you, I hope you are able to find some inspiration from this post. Even though I love creating theme parties for my children, the part they love the most is having their family and friends come celebrate with them. That is the most important part of any party!
